In general, keep your jewelry stored in separate plastic bags (EXCEPT for pearls - see below).  This will keep the pieces safe from moisture and dust in the air, and keep them from being scratched by other pieces.  Wrapping in anti-tarnish tissue or cloth is also a good idea.  The plastic bags that I package your purchase in is ideal for storage.

Using a soft, natural bristle brush and a mild soap (phosphate free, such as Ivory) should be adequate for cleaning all but the most tarnished of jewelry.  Rub gently with a soft, dry, cotton cloth and leave out for at least one hour to dry thoroughly before storing.  Retained moisture is the single biggest enemy of your jewelry!

Use silver cleaners with caution and sparingly.  It is better to frequently clean your jewelry using the above method than to clean it with cleaning solutions.

 

special care for organic pearls

Pearls are organic and need to breathe, so it is best to store them in a fabric lined compartment, away from heat and dry air.

Wipe your pearls with a soft, dry cloth after each use.  You can use a drop of mineral oil on the cloth to maintain their luster.

Avoid exposure to perfumes and hair spray.  Your pearls should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

NEVER use ultrasonic cleaners, detergents, bleaches or ammonia based cleaners.  If you must use a cleanser, use something mild like Ivory Soap flakes and a soft, natural bristle brush.
